Lora Mathis is a poet, essayist, and artist who grew up in between Southern California and Québec. She’s written three books of poetry, including the most recent, The Snakes Came Back from Metatron Press. Her first book of poems, The Women Widowed to Themselves, was published by Where Are You Press in 2015, and republished by Party Trick Press in 2021.
She regularly performs poetry, often alongside sound collaborators like Matty Terrones, who she put out the spoken word album Sediment (Hello America Stereo Cassette) with. Mathis makes visual artwork in video, photography, sculpture, graphic design, and printmaking. She often brings video into her live performances.
Mathis currently lives in Oakland. She’s a graduate of UC Berkeley and San Diego City College.
